Share
As we find ourselves well and truly in the midst of winter, and Christmas preparations fast underway, we take a look at some of the top events in London this winter to really get you in the festive spirit.
Christmas Lights
There is something so magical about the twinkling of fairy lights and those beautiful Christmas arrangements that adorn streets up and down the country. London has a wealth of different Christmas displays and it is well worth a visit to all of them to really get you in the Christmassy mood. With different arrangements around the city, feel in the mood with gorgeously decorated trees and beautiful ornate lights and decorations.
Eldimaa recommends: Covent Garden, Carnaby Street, Regent Street, Seven Dials, Bond Street, Oxford Street and Leicester Square.
Ice Skating
You probably fall into one of two categories: you elegantly glide around the rink in a cute scarf, hat and coat combo, or you cling onto the edge for dear life before ultimately looking like a cartoon character as you comically fall to the ice. Whether you want to part-take or just like watching people whizz around, there are plenty of locations across the city to strap on your skates.
Eldimaa recommends: Somerset House and the Natural History Museum.
Christmas pop-ups
London is full of glorious pop-up shops and events, from festive themed bars, to stunningly decorated, immersive cinemas and cosy corners that sell Christmas decor and gifts to your heart’s content. Perfect for whiling away an afternoon or evening to get yourself in the festive mood, or for finding an extra special gift for that someone special.
Eldimaa recommends: Queen of Hoxton winter rooftop bar (Shoreditch), The Montague on the Gardens Ski Lodge pop-up bar (Holborn), Jimmy’s Snow Globes and The Refuge pop-up dining igloos (South Bank) and Backyard Cinema - Pop-up magical winter cinema experience (The Winter Night Garden, Wandsworth and Snow Kingdom, Wandsworth).
Christmas Market
Everybody loves a Christmas market, whether it’s a fun family day out or a twilight stroll around stores selling mulled wine and tasty treats. There are plenty of Christmas markets dotted around the city, though no doubt the most famous and grandest of them all is Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. Find something for all the family with a day (or night) out at your favourite Christmas Market.
Eldimaa recommends: Winter Wonderland (Hyde Park), Southbank Centre Winter Market (South Bank) and Selfridges Christmas Market (Edwards Mews).
Light Festivals
There’s something special about the gorgeous twinkling of fairy lights and beautifully colourful light displays. If Christmas lights and decorations across the city aren’t enough to put you in the festive spirit, then the multitude of light festivals and shows across the city are just for you. From the extraordinary Christmas at Kew which sees the infamous gardens lit up in a breathtaking fashion, to Winterfest at Wembley Park Boulevard, there is something incredibly magical about the power of light on a dark winters night.
Eldimaa Recommends: Lightopia (Crystal Palace Park), Christmas at Kew (Kew Gardens), Christmas at Kenwood (Kenwood House, Hampstead Heath) and Winterfest (Wembley Park Boulevard).
